Dance teams take top spots at national competition

The Stevenson and Eisenhower dance teams have shown they make a strong one-two combination in national competitions.

The two teams recently earned first and second place finishes in the National Dance Competition held February 3 through 5 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.  

Teams perform for two-minutes and are evaluated on skill, technique, choreography, executive, performance quality and overall impression.

Eisenhower’s teams earned multiple championships in Large Varsity Jazz, Large Varsity Hip-Hop and JV Pom. Teams also took second in JV and Junior High School Jazz. The teams are coached by Rachelle Kiehle. 

An Eisenhower team has performed at the nationals for the past ten years, earning multiple gold and silver medals.

Stevenson’s dance team was ranked second in the nation in Medium Varsity Pom. The team is coached by Jenelle Sekol. 

Stevenson has attended the national championship for the past four years, earning high rankings for the past three tournaments.

There are more than 40 teams in each division. Team qualify for the national tournament after earning top ratings at state and regional competitions.
