UCS students prove to be no match at regional chess tournament

Two students working on a chess boardOn Saturday May 6th, chess players from around the Metro Detroit area came to Ford High School to participate in the 22nd Annual Utica Community Schools Chess Tournament.

 The 284 players, from 51 different schools, competed in their respective grade sections which produced nine 1st Place Champions.  

Each player, played five games.  Only one section needed tie-breaks to determine a first place winner.  

The 23 following UCS schools had participating players:
Beacon Tree, Beck, Bemis, Dekeyser, Dresden, Duncan, Ebeling, Eppler, Flickinger, Graebner, Henry Ford, Jeannette, Malow, Messmore, Monfort, Morgan, Roberts, Schuchard, Shelby, Stevenson, Switzer, UAIS, and Utica High
