History shows UCS students excel in Social Studies Olympiad

Utica Community School teams earned 130 top honors in a statewide competition that challenges on their social studies skills.

UCS students 33 Gold Medals, 41 Silver Medals, 28 Bronze Medals, and 28 Honorable Mentions at the annual Michigan Social Studies Olympiad, held May 13 at Centerline High School.

The 2017 Olympiad theme was “Remember the Ladies: Women’s Achievements, Leaders, and Causes.”

Participating UCS teams were from Beacon Tree, Beck, Browning, Burr, Crissman  Ebeling, Eppler, Graebner, Morgan, Oakbrook, Plumbrook, Schwarzkoff, Switzer, and Wiley elementary schools, Davis Junior High School and Stevenson High School.

The competition’s goals are increasing student interest in social studies education, encouraging a greater appreciation for this subject area and recognizing the important role played by social studies educators in our Michigan schools.

Nearly 80 schools from across Michigan participated in the competition.
