Utica Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns has been selected for the Macomb Hall of Fame.

 

Dr. Johns is among six honorees being inducted by the Macomb Foundation at a September 21 ceremony.

 

“We are proud to have Dr. Johns honored for the positive impact her leadership has had on education in Macomb County and beyond,” Board of Education president Gene Klida said. “It is the people of Utica Community Schools that continue to make our district a great place to live, learn and work.”

 

The Macomb Foundation has inducted 83 area leaders/businesses since the Macomb Hall of Fame was founded in 2000. The Foundation’s mission is to promote the advancement of business and community in Macomb County.

 

“The Macomb Hall of Fame is the premiere event for Macomb County’s business community,” said Grace Shore, CEO of the Macomb Foundation. “The members of the Macomb County Chamber are proud to recognize these exceptional individuals through our Foundation.”

 

Dr. Johns has served as Superintendent of Utica Community Schools – Michigan’s second largest school district - since 2006.

 

Through her leadership, UCS student achievement levels continue to outpace state and national averages; the district’s graduation rate remains among the best in the region; and programs and schools are recognized nationally on a regular basis for academic excellence.

 

Dr. Johns has received numerous educational and leadership honors, including eSchool News National Tech Savvy Superintendent of the Year, the People’s Choice Award from Leadership Macomb and was named one of Michigan’s 100 Most Influential Women by Crain’s Business Detroit.

 

In addition to Dr. Johns, other inductees for the Macomb Hall of Fame this year include: Andy Appleby – President & CEO, General Sports & Entertainment, LLC; Charlie Langton – Langton Law, Fox 2 and WWJ Legal Analyst; the Randazzo Family – Randazzo Fresh Markets; Brig. Gen. John Slocum – 127th Wing, Selfridge ANG Base; and the Viviano Family – Judges, Lawyers, and Flower Shops.

 

“These honorees demonstrate exceptional commitment to building our community,” said State Representative Peter J. Lucido, chair of the Macomb Hall of Fame and president of Lucido & Manzella, P.C. “Their corporate, civic and philanthropic leadership exemplify the highest standards of achievement over many years and we are proud to recognize them.”
