Back to Square One is positive for UCS students

UAIS students were able to meet with NASA astronaut David Leesma at Synergy Summit 2011, sponsored by the Square One Educational Network.
Going back to square one was something positive for a group of UCS students.
Students from the Utica Academy of International Studies and The Utica Center for Science and Industry recently participated in the Synergy Summit 2011, sponsored by the Square One Education network.
The conference, held in mid-August at Eastern Michigan University, allowed students to hear from national and local speakers about how STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - will relate to the future jobs in Michigan.
"The students were able to listen to experts in the field discuss collaboration and the future of Michigan and the Millennial Generation," said UAIS teacher Jayme Pfannes.
Speakers included Astronaut Captain David Leesma, economist Lou Glazer, Ford executive Jim Buczkowski, as well as a panel that included educators and students. The program was hosted by Tom Eisbrenner, of Eisbrenner Public Relations.
Pfannes said the summit reinforced the focus of STEM instruction for UCS students, with UAIS student Melanie Nieske telling presenters: "Thank you to all of you for believing in us."
