Blue Jean project wears on Bemis students

Bemis Junior High School students have found a charity project that fits their dedication to community service.
The students of Bemis Junior High Life Skills classes have collected more than 300 pairs of used blue jeans to donate to homeless teens.
The school-wide effort began after students learned of a "Teens for Jeans." Since its inception, the program has collected nearly 1.5 million jeans for homeless teens.
Bemis 8th grader Ashley McCoy said the service project - one of approximately ten community projects Life Skills students sponsor each year - helps students make a difference.
"It makes us feel good to help others," she said.
Life Skills teacher Casey Finkbeiner said the jeans project also gives students a lesson in recyclying.
"Just because the jeans do not fit doesn't mean that they should be thrown out," she said.
