Small Engine Repair Career Tree

What You Will Learn:
Students have the opportunity to gain skills through intensive hands-on and quality instruction. Students will focus on servicing and repairing two and four cycle engines. Small gasoline engines supply power to countless products across various industries that typically fall into one of two categories: powerports or landscaping equipment. Students will learn to service and repair mechanical, ignition, electrical, fuel, cooling, and starting systems.

CTE Small Engine Repair I
SHARED TIME: Requires travel to Henry Ford II High School.
This is a comprehensive course for students interested in learning how to repair small internal combustion engines. Students are taught the use of basic hand tools, engine maintenance (both two and four-cycle), valve grinding, burnishing, theory of compression, carburetion, and magneto electrical system. Engine tear-down, rebuilding, and troubleshooting are done using industrial manuals as guides.

CTE ADV Small Engine Repair (2 hour block)
SHARED TIME: Requires travel to Henry Ford II High School
PREREQUISITE: CTE Small Engine Repair I
This course is designed to teach job entry skills in the repair of both two and four-stroke small engine equipment and recreational vehicles. The electronic electrical system is studied and compared to the magneto electrical system. Students are put in service-type situation where they are responsible for repair jobs from beginning to end. Students are required to complete performance objectives, keep a notebook and take exams.

STW Small Engine Repair Intern
Prerequisite : Must be enrolled in a CTE Automotive Course.
The objective of our STW Program is to connect classroom learning with work-based learning experiences, prepare students for the move from classroom to the workplace, support supervised on-the-job training, and help students make career decisions.
