Typical Course Progression:

CTE Child Development-Early Child

In this CTE (Career and Technical Education) course students will study the principles of child growth and development from conception through age five. The focus of the course is on meeting children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs in their homes and classrooms. This course is essential for students with goals to work in the career field of human services, education and training or any other careers working with children. Students will complete the Real Care Baby Stimulation project during this course.

CTE Child Development - School Aged

This CTE (Career and Technical Education) course is designed to assess students’ strengths and weaknesses, and to promote social and emotional wellness through reflection and shared experiences. Students will learn how they can build successful and effective relationships with children, and others. Theory, health and safety, positive guidance, special needs of children and careers with children will all be thoroughly addressed. Students will have career development opportunities within Education Pathway through job shadowing and observation in school aged classroom settings.

CTE Future Educators I

Shared Time: May require travel to another building

Future Educators I is a yearlong, co-educational, hands-on course designed for 11th and 12th grade students. This course offers college credit and is a highly effective career preparation program. In addition to teaching students to become educators, it also develops and enhances management, public speaking, communication, leadership, professionalism and job skills. Students will choose a class to assist, grades Pre-k through 12, all subjects: gym, math, music, art, EL and special education etc. Students will then work the full year in this professional classroom setting. Future Educators is a strong resume builder and offers a life-enriching experience that opens up job opportunity in a wide variety of field settings. This class is not limited to the teaching profession.

CTE Future Educators II

Shared Time: May require travel to another building

Prerequisite: CTE Future Educators I

Future Educators II is a yearlong, co-educational, college-level course for high school juniors and seniors. This two-credit course is designed to provide students with additional hands-on experience as to what it means to be a teacher. Students will spend 5 days a week in their assigned classroom placement in order to further their skill set as a teacher. Students will complete additional coursework assigned and submit material via an online medium such as blackboard. Students may also earn community service hours, training certificates, and letters of recommendation, scholarships and job opportunities.

STW Future Educator Intern

Prerequisite: School to work Coordinator approval, and completed or co-enrolled in CTE Future Educators I.

This course offers students the opportunity to spend a portion of their school day working at an educational related training site in the community. This employment experience is related to the career goals of the student and is supervised by a school-to-work coordinator. The student will develop workplace skills and leadership traits in their chosen area of specialty. Evaluation of job performance and assessment of coursework is the responsibility of the STW Coordinator with input from the training site supervisor. This program adheres to all federal and state labor laws.
