UCS parents are being asked to indicate whether their child(ren) will be enrolled in either in-person/remote or the UCS Virtual Academy for the second semester by Sunday, November 15 at 11:59 p.m.

What is in-person/remote learning?

In person/remote learning option will allow your student to transition to in-person learning when health and safety factors permit us to return to our classrooms. Parents who make this choice are committing to having their students attend school under any of the following situations:

·       Fully in-person at any time
·       Hybrid model (two in-person and three days remote) at any time
·       Fully remote

What is the UCS Virtual Academy?

The UCS Virtual Academy is a completely online option for families who may have medically-fragile students or are seeking a full virtual option for their children. Students would remain in the UCS Virtual Academy through the end of the 2020-21 school year.

Why do I need to make the choice at this time?

Depending on movement between the options, schools will need to invest resources and time into developing schedules and making staffing assignments. Planning is necessary to make sure schedules meet our students’ academic needs and choices.

What will the status be of in-person learning at the beginning of the second semester?

The level of in-person instruction is directly dependent on the status of COVID-19. As the spread of COVID-19 is reduced – as well as the percent of individuals testing positive – the district will continue a gradual process toward increased in-person learning.

If I choose to remain in my current enrollment option will my child keep their current teacher?

Every effort will be made to keep your child will their current teacher, however, changes may occur due to staffing changes.

When does this choice take effect? Do I need to commit for the remainder of the school year?

The choices take effect at the start of the second semester, which begins January 4, 2021. Once parents complete their choice, appropriate staffing levels are established to meet the needs of our students. Parents making either choice would remain in their preferred option for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

If I do not plan to change my child’s status, do I need to complete the survey?

Yes.  An enrollment option should be reaffirmed for all students by Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.
