UCS students earn top honors at Thespian Festival, more than $1.5 million in scholarships

Michigan Thespian Festival LogoThough things may have looked a bit different this year, Twenty Utica Community School district theater students, as well as over 500 other theater students across Michigan, attended this year’s Michigan Thespian Festival held virtually on December 4-6, 2020, and experienced a weekend of camaraderie, development, growth and competition.

Utica Community School students attended workshops, ranging from actor warmups and playwrighting, to how to act with various accents. The students also had the opportunity for question and answer periods with theater professionals such as, Katie Travis, Korie Lee Bosley, Ryan VanDenBoom, Michael Kushner, Lauren Molina, Antonio Cipriano, Grey Henson, and Kyle Selig. The opening ceremony featured keynote speakers Sandra Joseph and Ron Bohmer. The closing ceremony featured a very uplifting and powerful presentation by actor and writer Idris Goodwin.

Eight Utica Community students participated in competitive events all earing and excellent rating in the following events:

Students who auditioned for college programs received a combined total of approximately $1,520,600 in scholarship offers.
