All UCS high schools named among nation’s best for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

All four Utica Community Schools comprehensive high schools have been named among the nation’s best for providing student experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Eisenhower, Henry Ford II, Stevenson and Utica high schools were among the top 13 percent of the nation’s public and private high schools to be honored as 2020 Best STEM schools by Newsweek Magazine. 

 “The national recognition reflects the hard work of our entire staff to challenge students with rigorous coursework and prepare them for successful post-secondary experiences,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said. “Our graduates will support the economic strength of our region by being well prepared for the high paying careers in the defense, automotive and health care industries that are right in our backyard.”

Newsweek partnered with STEM.org, an educational research organization, to rank the best STEM high schools around the country. The schools were ranked based on data collected from 2015 to 2019.

The research determined which schools provided the best STEM experience for students while positioning them for post-secondary study.
