Student participants from across Utica Community Schools competed on
Friday, March 29th & Saturday, March 30th at a FIRST Robotics
district competition held at Marysville High School in Marysville. Both
Crevolution, Team 2851, and Thunderchickens, Team 217, enjoyed a
successful competition against teams from across Michigan.
At the end of 80 qualifying matches, Crevolution was ranked in 2nd place and formed an alliance
with teams from Lapeer and Wayne. After advancing out of the
quarterfinals, Crevolution bowed out of the competition during the
semi-final matches but was rewarded for their hard work with a Quality
Award.
Following the
conclusion of qualifying, Thunderchickens was ranked in 5th place
overall, giving UCS two of the top five robots among the 40 competing
teams. After accepting an invitation to join the top-ranked team from
Berrien Springs on an alliance with a team from Croswell,
Thunderchickens were to go undefeated in the elimination rounds a claim
the Blue Banner that is awarded to the District Champions.
Thunderchickens also claimed the Industrial Design Award.
A
highlight of Saturday afternoon was when the two UCS teams combined
forces during a winning qualification match with team members and
parents joining together in a “UCS” chant. All throughout the weekend,
both teams showed great sportsmanship and support for each other.
