Ike senior sets new varsity record

Ava StackAva Stack was on a mission the night she set a scoring record for the Eisenhower Girls Basketball program.

“We had a blowout the game before and I struggled, and I just wanted to prove myself,” she said.

And prove herself she did – setting a school record of 37 points during a December 7 game against crosstown rival Stevenson High School.

“It feels good,” she said of the accomplishment. “It is nice to see your name on the board and hear the announcement.”

The Eisenhower High School senior is in her fourth year of varsity basketball, and has been previously been honored as a member of the MAC Red Division first team and All County Second team.

Stack said that basketball has been a life-long passion that runs in the family, as her older sister was also an Ike standout.

“I am competitive, and I found something I liked and I was good at,” she said.

The Eisenhower squad, which Stack described as a “young team,” has posted a 12-4 record overall.

Stack credits varsity coach Cliff Piper with her personal and the team’s growth and success.

“Coach Piper is the only coach I’ve had in high school, and he has always rooted for me,” she said. “It is great to have someone I have always known trust me on the court.”
