Bemis students get close up look at marine ecosystem

Bemis students in FloridaBemis Junior High School students made a big splash in the world of science.

The 26 students – with teachers Karen Forsyth, Leslie Gray and Scott Stokes -  visited the Florida Keys over spring break.

“The overall goal of the trip was to make connections to our ecosystem and learn ways that we can have a positive effect on the environment through conservation,” Forsyth said.

The students visited the Everglades National Park at night for a "Night Sounds Lab" and also during the day on a "Shark Valley" tram tour.  The group went snorkeling at a beach in Key Largo, dissected squid, and learned about invertebrates in a touch pool.

Students also went dip netting on an ancient coral reef, visited a Turtle Hospital, went to Robbie's Marina to feed giant Tarpon, snorkeled in Largo Sound, kayaked in the Mangroves, and swam with Dolphins.
