Ford II grad earns prestigious scholarship to Michigan State to pursue career as civil rights attorney
Henry Ford II graduate Ava Spear plans to have a future where she stands up for those without a voice.
“I plan to study pre-law with political science or psychology minor so I can better understand the mentalities that lead to injustices in our society,” the future civil rights attorney said. “I want to stand up for others when their voice is being silenced.”
The 2024 graduate is well on her way after earning the Spartan Tuition Advantage and a series of scholarships to cover the costs of beginning at Michigan State University this fall.
“I was very relieved to receive the scholarship,” she said. “I’m excited to go into my undergrad without having to take on debt.”
At Ford II, Spear held an officer position in Key Club, served as co-president in the National Honor Society and served on student council and HOSA.
Spear – who also attended Havel and Bemis Junior High School – credited the support of her teachers for making her dream possible.
“UCS has always been a school community where people help each other and lift each other up," she said. "My teachers have always supported me. I feel like they got me here, and I wouldn’t be who I am without them.”
