Burr students bring new meaning to the term shadow boxing

Burr students with shadow boxes

Burr Elementary students are redefining the term shadow boxing.

Sixth-grade students put together shadow boxes in their art classes by studying foreground, middle ground, background, depth, value and perspective.

“I'm so proud of these students and their creativity,” said Burr art teacher Jennifer Stulz-Simunic.

Each shadow box was built from construction paper and is the student's own interpretation of the lesson.

“This project was fun because it was 3D and we could build it, not just draw it,” said sixth-grader Audrey Esshaki, “Mrs. S is the best art teacher I have ever had. I am glad I had this opportunity to create something my last year at Burr.”

Added sixth grader Olive Ledsma-Middleton: “"I liked doing this because you can show your creative side. It helped me to express myself. I love horses and this was a fun way for me to show that".”

The projects are currently on display in the Burr Elementary media center.
