Flickinger students "Leap Into Leadership"
Flickinger Elementary fifth grader Ben Mujkic is changing his title from Governor to Ambassador this year.
After serving his fourth grade year with the title of governor for his class, Mujkic said he wants to further build his leadership skills so he can impact the entire school by becoming an ambassador for new students.
“I feel I can help our school and make it better,” he said after spending half a day at Flickinger learning about leadership opportunities at his school.
Mujkic and 34 of his Flickinger friends took part in “Leap Into Leadership” day to develop teamwork and service skills. Held on a half day before the start of school, it was part of a school staff initiative to encourage students to give back to their community.
“The Falcon Service Team provides both an exciting and important opportunity for our 5th and 6th grade students to positively impact our school community,” Flickinger principal Pauline Roberts said. “Students have both choice and voice in the roles and responsibilities they take on, and each position empowers our students to grow as leaders and role models.”
Flickinger physical education teacher Marissa Rothwell said following the leadership activities, students picked volunteer jobs of interest where they can use what they learned at the half-day workshop. Opportunities included being a lunch buddy, ambassador, bus buddy, teacher assistant.
Rothwell said the leadership training will continue through the year.
“We will meet with them to review and help them further their skills,” she said.
