Havel students are staging walk outs for their wellness
Havel Elementary students are staging a walk out.
The walk out is not out of protest, but rather is meant to a way to take a break and focus on their mental and physical health.
“Sometimes you can get overworked,” said Brendan Miles. “This is just easy and simple and quick.”
Havel Principal Jennie Blair said the “Walk Out Wednesdays” is a wellness initiative this year that ties in with their school theme of “Growing Together.” The idea came from the school’s Wellness Committee.
“We are focusing our thoughts about PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and wellness to promote a joy of learning and to generate excitement around coming to school,” she said.
Students walk around the building twice, with many chanting “Havel Hawks” and “Let’s Go Havel.” They wear grade level shirts.
Fourth grader Peyton Arena said she appreciates the break.
“I think this is good exercise,” she said. “Plus, it is fun and we get time with our friends.”
