    Dear All Star Parents/Guardians:

    Happy New Year!

I hope that our entire All Star community had a wonderful holiday break and was able to enjoy time with family and friends!  It is exciting to welcome in a new year knowing that there are a lot of wonderful experiences waiting for all our students during the second half of the year!

We are happy to begin the new year with a brand-new Positive Behavior Support initiative here at Beacon Tree Elementary.  For many of our All Star community who were with us prior to COVID-19, you may recall our “BT3” Positive Behavior Support system.  Students were encouraged to be “Safe, Kind, and Responsible” here at Beacon Tree Elementary.  Each month we would celebrate students who utilized these characteristics regularly during morning announcements with prizes and award certificates.  This system was put in place to help build a positive culture within our building by promoting characteristics that can last a lifetime.

Because of the disruption during the pandemic, we had the opportunity to rethink/reimage our BT3 program.  To support the district initiative on wellness, Beacon Tree Elementary has been working on creating a Positive Behavior Support program that is more dynamic and more embedded in our daily routine.  Our new program is called “All Star Strong”.  This program has been a collaboration of staff, our BTV, and parents to enhance our Beacon Tree culture and to support the district wellness initiative.  You will be hearing more about our program in the upcoming months.

To help roll out the program, our fantastic Media Center teacher, Mrs. DiBrango, has created a video so that you can begin to become more familiar with the new initiative.  The video is student driven and will outline the character traits that we will be focusing on throughout the remainder of the school year and beyond.  With the support of our incredible BTV, we look forward to celebrating staff and students with this new program.

    Student Council Supporting The Community

A HUGE thank you to our Beacon Tree Student Council for organizing the Holiday Charitable Drives this year!  With the support of our fantastic community, we were able to provide some Holiday Cheer to:

    1. Maddie’s Toy Drive
    2. Kiwanas Club Hat and Mitten Tree
    3. Kiwanas Club Canned Food Drive

I am so proud of our Student Council and all that they did to help support members of our community!

Congratulations to our LEGO Robotics team, The Mindblowers, for competing in the State LEGO tournament in December!  The team traveled to Troy High School to compete against teams from across the state.  I was able to cheer them on at the competition and was so proud of them!  They worked so well together and were so positive, even when the robot was not cooperating with them.  They were able to take the “Breakthrough Award” home and had a robot performance that had them 6th best out of 48 competing teams.  They did Beacon Tree Elementary Proud!

    6th Grade Choir Shines!

Prior to break, our 6th grade choir was very busy!  Not only did they sing in front of a PACKED HOUSE at Eisenhower High School, but they also held a couple of “Hallway Gigs” for our students!  Thanks to the leadership of our wonderful music teacher, Mr. Zuccaro, our choir was filling our building with wonderful songs of cheer!  Congratulations to Mr. Zuccaro and the entire choir!!!!  You did a fantastic job!

    3rd Grade Music Concert!

Mr. Zuccaro did not stop with our 6th grade choir; he continued his concert tour by putting on a show with our 3rd grade!  Our 3rd grade students were able to sing for parents and students prior to the holiday break.  They did so well for all in attendance during both performances.  Unfortunately, illness kept me away from the shows, but I heard it went over so well that we had to put more than 100 more chairs down for the evening performance due to the attendance of the community (totaling over 500 chairs!!).  Another HUGE thank you to Mr. Zuccaro for organizing the event and to the 3rd grade team for their support and helping provide time for the kiddos to practice!

    6th Grade 3D Printing!

With the support of our BTV, Beacon Tree Elementary is always trying to offer our students something a little different!  This year we have been able to expose our 6th grade students who took Media Center this first half of the year to 3D printing!  Mrs. DiBrango, our fantastic Media Center teacher, has been working with one of our families to help bring 3D printing to life for our students.  Mr. Lisseman has been an integral part of the growth of our 3D printing here at Beacon Tree Elementary.  He has helped every step of the way from purchase to production!  Thank you so much Mr. Lisseman for your help with this project!  We are so happy to be able to expose our All Stars to 3D printing!

A HUGE thank you goes out to a SPECTACULAR team of volunteers who put together a fantastic Santa Shop for our All Stars!  The team of Mrs. Joiner, Mrs. McGrail, Mrs. Kucharek, Mrs. Daniels, Mrs. Malopolski, Mrs. Sibinovic, and Mrs. Hoenle created a wonderful shopping opportunity for our All Stars to spread a little Holiday Cheer to their families!  The students were so happy to shop and pick items out for their families!  They loved it!

I also wanted to say thank you to all of our volunteers who came in to help wrap items as well!  You were instrumental in helping all of our All Stars prepare their gifts for loved ones!  Thank you so much!

As January rolls on into the doldrums of winter, students will need to be prepared for outdoor recess opportunities.  We will have outdoor recess as long as the playground is clear and safe, the temperature is above 10 degrees (with the windchill), and it's not raining.  Please make sure that your child is prepared for outdoor recess for various weather opportunities.  I would also encourage parents to make sure that their child’s name is written on as many clothing items as possible.  Our Lost and Found usually begins to fill up quickly as the weather gets colder.  If your child’s name is on an item, there is a greater chance it will be returned to the original owner.
