Shelby Announcements

  • How to Report an Absence

When a student is going to be absent, parents/guardians should report the absence before the school day begins. Calls to the attendance line can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Shelby Attendance Line is 586-797-3799. Absences will be input to PowerSchool by 4:00 pm on the date of the absence.

Per UCS policy, the following reasons for an absence will be accepted as an excused absence; student illness, hospitalization, doctor ordered bed rest, mandatory court appearance that has been pre-arranged, death in the immediate family, family vacation that has been pre-arranged and approved, medical appointments and administrative permission. All other absences will be unexcused.

Pre-approved absence forms can be obtained in the counseling office, the main office or in Schoology.

  • Safety Remains a Priority in Utica Community Schools!

On May 2, Utica Community Schools will be holding a special election that will allow voters to consider the district’s Safety and Success proposals. Our schools remain the centerpiece of the community, and we are proud that many of our school facilities are used to support the voting process. During these elections, school facilities need to be open and easily accessible to allow voters to cast their ballots.

As has been the practice of UCS for past elections, there will be no school on May 2. The cancellation of school maintains our commitment to safety and allows our facilities to be open for community members to cast their ballots in this important election. This will also provide an opportunity for professional development opportunities for staff.
