UALC/Adult Education grads reflect on a road of grit, determination and success
The approach may have been different, graduates at the Alternative Learning Center and Adult Education
“The road may not have been the one we planned on taking, but with hard work and determination, we are standing here today as high school graduates,” said UALC graduate Shane Jerzy.
“We learned that with hard work and a support system, your dreams have the possibility to become real life achievements,” said UALC speaker Nash Rose. “The lessons we have learned while working toward graduation will stay with us for life. Despite the adversity we all went through, we have reached this day after all the hard work and dedication we put forth.”
Superintendent Robert Monroe noted that the Class of 2025 was the first to have a mandated kindergarten – a change that led to the district creating a nationally recognized kindergarten that used technology to personalize their learning.
“From the very beginning, you were recognized as leaders who accepted whatever challenge was put in front of you,” he said. “It means you can go into your future knowing you have the talent, tenacity, and grit and to take on anything.”
Dr. Mary Smolenski challenged graduates who are considering “what’s next” to remain committed to their education.
“The diploma you receive today is not the finish line, but a torch, a flame for curiosity lit at UCS that will continue to burn brightly throughout your lives,” she said. “Whether your next chapter leads to a classroom, a job site, a lab, or somewhere completely unexpected, know that learning has only just begun.”
"Our students come to us from many diverse backgrounds and experiences, but as each student embraces the importance of education, their path leads all of us here today in a united celebration," said director of community education CJ Wajeeh. "Our graduates have worked hard to get to this moment, but with the support and encouragement of their families and staff they have made it here today."
Congratulations to the Adult Ed/UALC Class of 2025.
