• Ford II grads celebrate their Falcon family

    Henry Ford II Class of 2024 members may be leaving high school behind, but not the family they created.

    “More than anything now, at the end of my high school career, I recognize how truly important it is to be a Ford Falcon,” said Commencement speaker Bria Loveday. “It means you always have a place in the Ford family.”

    The members of the Henry Ford II Class of 2024 received their diplomas at a ceremony Saturday at the O’Rena at Oakland University.

    Principal Lori Singleton spoke to the accomplishments of the Class of 2024:

    • 46 Valedictorians and 2 Salutatorian
    • 201 seniors took at least one AP class this year, and 12 took college courses through dual enrollment and 3 were enrolled in through the Early College of Macomb program.
    • 106 graduates are members of the National Honor Society
    • 21 are members of the Utica Center for Math Science and Technology and 10 are members of the Utica Center for Science and Industry. 1
    • 18 are Falcon scholars, which means they maintained a GPA of 3.67 or higher for seven semesters.
    • 47 graduating seniors are AP scholars earned a 3.67 GPA in 4 or more AP classes. 
    • 64 Seniors are Presidential scholars having earned at least a 1160 on the SAT and having a GPA of at least a 3.67 GPA or higher.

    Singleton shared that on the athletic field, Henry Ford II Boys soccer, Hockey, and Swim team won the MAC White Championships. The girls basketball team earned the district championship title wile maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

    “Dream big even if it seems impossible,” Singleton said. “You only have one life to live your life on your own terms.”

    Superintendent Robert Monroe reminded graduates with the many titles they carry – son or daughter, sibling, Falcon – they now add a new one.

    “Today, you will become a Utica Community Schools graduate. It is a title that I invite you to wear with pride,” he said.

    Board of Education president Dr. Mary Thomas said graduates will continue to have the benefit of their community and parents as they navigate the road forward.

    “In life, lean into your parents, guardians, family, and friends when you find yourself lost or in unfamiliar territory,” she said.  “In partnership with you, they will look at your available routes to guide you to the path that makes the most sense in that instance.”
