Important Reminders
Every student must wear their ID at all times while on school grounds. A student’s ID card authorizes him/her to be on the school campus. It is crucial that the school staff can identify everyone on campus. Identification of staff and students is a safety issue and will not be compromised. Student IDs may be left in the student’s assigned locker overnight to ensure the student ID is not left at home. Please see page 1 in the UCS student handbook for more information.
Another important reminder is to take time with your student to review the UCS High School Credit Review Rules and Procedures. In short, it starts by saying that a student has a responsibility to attend, be on time and prepared for each scheduled class. When a student nears or is at 10 absences (any combination of absences or tardies) they will meet with their Associate Principal and parents will be notified. At 11 absences the student will enter Credit Review and can restore those credits by making up the lost time for the classes via a contract made with their associate principal. This cannot be recovered short of testing out, taking the class via scheduling, credit recovery or summer school. Please take the time to read and discuss this with your student, and make sure they understand.
Please be familiar with the UCS dress code. You can find the dress code on page 26 of the student handbook.
Safety remains a priority in Utica Community Schools.
On May 2, Utica Community Schools will be holding a special election that will allow voters to consider the district’s Safety and Success proposals. Our schools remain the centerpiece of the community, and we are proud that many of our school facilities are used to support the voting process. During these elections, school facilities need to be open and easily accessible to allow voters to cast their ballots.
As has been the practice of UCS for past elections, there will be no school on May 2. The cancellation of school maintains our commitment to safety and allows our facilities to be open for community members to cast their ballots in this important election. This will also provide an opportunity for professional development opportunities for staff. Please note – Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate testing on May 2 will be held as scheduled.
Have a safe and fun spring break and come back ready to finish the school year strong. With Titan Pride,
Kenneth L. Cucchi III
