• Davis is one of three UCS schools offering the Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program.  AVID is a structured college preparatory system working directly with schools and districts to provide support for college-bound students.  This school-wide approach to curriculum and rigor focuses on increasing academic achievement with the expectation that every student will pursue some type of postsecondary educational endeavor.

    • AVID students sponsor charitable fundraisers via class competition throughout the year.  SOCKTOBER happens during the month of October.  Students bring in donations of socks to be given to MCREST at the end of the month. There is the Canned Food Drive that begins each November and runs through December 4th..  Again, this is a class competition and students are encouraged to bring in cans or boxes of non-perishable items to be donated via the local Kiwanis Club.

    • DJH teachers teamed with educators from the Generative Leadership Initiative to incorporate brain-based learning strategies in seventh and eighth grade core classes..

    • DJH achieved Emerald Green School status for the fourth consecutive year in 2012-2013.  In addition, we have partnered with Macomb Fresh, a Macomb County Hope Center program.  Macomb Fresh assisted Davis in establishing a community garden at our school to provide a healthy food source for children, along with nutrition education and other learning opportunities with the goal of changing the next generation's thinking about nutrition and food production.

    • DJH has become a "WeatherBug" school station.  The WeatherBug Schools Network is the world's largest forecasting network.  More than 8,000 U.S. schools operate WeatherBug tracking stations to integrate live local weather data and technology into classroom learning.  WeatherBug Achieve, a web-based teaching tool, automatically embeds live weather readings and images from any source on the network into interactive lessons.
