Jeannette Announcements

  • Dear parents,
We have a very exciting week ahead of us!

Next Tuesday is the PSAT for 8th and 9th graders!  This is an important day for your child because they can demonstrate what they have learned in mathematics and English Language Arts. It is also important for your child to be in attendance this day because the state of Michigan requires every school to have nearly 100% participation on the test.

Please see the letter linked here, which students received on Wednesday. This letter will tell you everything you need to know about what your child can expect on Tuesday. One thing I need to highlight for you is that YOUR CHILD MUST HAVE THEIR COMPUTER AND CHARGER ON MONDAY, APRIL 8!! They will leave it here at school overnight in their testing room. They will not have homework on Monday.

Another exciting event next week is the Solar Eclipse! The eclipse occurs on Monday. There is a letter attached here that will give you important information about steps UCS is taking to make sure that your child can both enjoy the eclipse and remain safe. Please read the letter carefully.

If you have any questions, please call my office at 586-797-3300.

    Have a great weekend,

    Beth Grillo

  • Good morning, Patriots!

    Here is this week's newsletter!

Safety remains a priority in Utica Community Schools.

The State of Michigan has announced that it will hold a presidential primary on Tuesday, February 27th. Our schools remain the centerpiece of the community, and we are proud that many of our school facilities are used to support the voting process. During these elections, school facilities need to be open and easily accessible to allow voters to cast their ballots.

As has been the practice of UCS for past elections, there will be no school on Tuesday, February 27. The cancellation of school maintains our commitment to safety and allows our facilities to be open for community members to cast their ballots.

  • Dear Patriot family,
Happy New Year from all of us at Jeannette! We look forward to a fantastic year filled with learning and community. Here are a few important pieces of information before we return in a couple days:

    1. We return to school with a normal, full day on Wednesday, January 3rd!
    2. This is the beginning of a new semester, so you will have new classes.
    3. We were able to add an additional English 9 class, so it's likely that schedules will be changing over the next couple days as we work on moving students into that class. I recommend checking your schedule on PowerSchool on Tuesday night to get the most accurate schedule possible!
    4. Semester 1 grades aren't due until January 5th. This means that if you were absent for an exam in December, you should email your teacher TODAY to arrange to take it right when you return.
Let's start the semester off right! Consider it this way: Right now, you all have ALL As! All you have to do is keep them!

We'll see you in a couple days!

  • Hello, Patriots!
It was a great week at Jeannette! We had a very smooth and successful testing day on Wednesday, an amazing guest speaker, and we honored our teacher of the year, Mrs. Rachel Adams!

  • Good morning, Patriots!

Tomorrow is the big day - the PSAT 8 and PSAT 9!

Parents, we need your help!!! Please ensure that your child arrives to school ON TIME tomorrow. This is very important.  We have to test 95% of our students in order to be in good standing with the state of Michigan!

Here is what their day will look like:

    - 7:30-7:50 AM - Students arrive and proceed to the cafeteria.
    - 7:50-8:00 AM - Students use the restroom, place all of their belongings in their lockers, and proceed to their testing rooms.  **8th and 9th graders have received their room assignments already. 9th graders who test in the gym will receive their seat assignments today during 5th hour. **
    - 8:00-8:20 AM - Proctors pass out testing materials and begin reading test directions.
    - 8:20 AM - Testing begins. Doors will shut and no students will be allowed in the testing rooms. If your student does not arrive at school by 8:15 AM tomorrow, they should stay home until 11:30 AM.
    - 8:20-11:30 AM - Test in progress.
    - 11:30 AM-12:45 PM - Students will have 4th hour and lunch.
    - The rest of the day will proceed as normal.

Students are NOT allowed to have any electronic devices in the testing rooms, including cell phones, smart watches, and Bluetooth headphones. These items should be kept in their lockers until after the test is over.

Please help us by getting your student to school on time, ensuring that they get a good night's sleep, and making sure they eat a good breakfast.

Thank you, and please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Dear Patriot families -

Here is our week 19 newsletter! https://www.smore.com/5yfxnu

If you can believe it, we have finished our first semester of the school year. I don't know about you, but it flew by for us. We have had some exciting successes this year! Our attendance has greatly improved compared to last year, many more of our students passed their classes compared to last year, and those familiar with our building have said that the culture is more positive than it has been in years.

Parents, you are an important part of these successes. Not only should you be proud of your children for doing well, but you should also be congratulated. You are participating in the Jeannette community more than ever, and your responsiveness to our calls and requests for help have kept your children on the right track. You are vital to everything positive that we are trying to achieve here.

    Thank you,

Beth Grillo, Principal, Jeannette Junior High School
