Hello to the Parents of the Class of 2036!
This is an exciting time for you and your child, and Utica Community Schools is here to help transition your students into our nationally-recognized schools.
Here are some things to know to get you started to enroll in UCS for the 2023-24 school year:
Kindergarten Eligibility
Children can be enrolled for kindergarten or our Young Fives program if they turn five on or before December 1, 2023. Please note – If your child is born between September 2 and December 1, 2018, you will need to complete a waiver to register in Utica Community Schools. A waiver is not required for children who were born on or before September 1, 2018.Young Fives Program
The Young Fives program provides young children additional time to prepare for a successful kindergarten and school experience. The program fosters social, emotional, physical and academic development through a year of growth and discovery for children who need additional time for development and maturity before entering kindergarten. Students who take part in the Young Fives program will transition to traditional kindergarten the following school year. The program is recommended for students with birthdays between September 1 and December 2018.Parents should begin the registration process by selecting "kindergarten" as the grade level for enrollment, and then select "yes" when asked whether they want to pursue the Young Fives Program for their child.
More information is available at this link.
Kindergarten and Young 5's Developmental Screening
If your child is currently enrolled in one of our preschool classrooms or Bridge to Kindergarten Young Fives program, their teacher will screen your child so there is no need to sign up for a screening appointment. If your child does not presently attend UCS preschool, please sign up today at the link below for a screening appointment at this link: https://tinyurl.com/UCSYoungFivesKindergarten2023Vision and Hearing Screening
Michigan law requires hearing and vision screening prior to starting kindergarten. For information on free screenings available through Macomb County, please see this link.
