MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award Finalist: Sarah Fromm, Utica High School senior

Utica High School senior, Sarah Fromm, is a multi-sport varsity athlete, a future Grand Valley State University soccer player, and now one of 120 finalists for the 2023-24 Michigan High School Athletic Association’s (MHSAA) Scholar-Athlete Award.

Fromm is proud of these accomplishments, but recognizes that to be successful as an athlete, you must also do well in school.

“You’re more of a student athlete than an athletic student,” Fromm explained. “It feels important because it sets an example for someone to show that I’m not just an athlete, education is also really important, too.”

According to the MHSAA, the organization received over 1,600 applications for the award.

“Sarah truly demonstrates the characteristics of a student-athlete,” Utica High School athletic director, Troy Hayes said. “To be recognized at the state level for her work both on and off the court and field is a very high honor.”

32 students state-wide will be recognized with the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete award and receive a $2,000 scholarship later in February.
