UCS team is Michigan Quiz Bowl Champion

State Champion Quiz Bowl

The Gene L. Klida Utica Academy for International Studies (GLK-UAIS) quiz bowl team was named Michigan champions and two students were honored as all-state at a statewide competition.

The team earned the Class B state title and senior Brendan Pawlicki and Sophomore Benjamin Edmunds were named all-state at the Michigan championship, held at Michigan State University.

"This team was head and shoulders beyond their competition," said team coach William Dobbie. "After 11 wins, zero losses and outscoring their opponents 5670-800 the team walked away with the State Title."

Quiz bowl allows student teams to compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, geographic, and history.  Students use a "buzzer system" that lets them interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer.

The team will be participating in two national championships: the Small Schools Championship in Chicago April 26-28 and the High School National Championship in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend.
