Six UCS schools honored for commitment to the environment

Six UCS schools honored for commitment to teaching the next generation about protecting their world.

Six UCS schools were honored as “Green Schools” for their commitment to environmental education.

The schools were honored by the Macomb County Board of Education for demonstrating initiatives that encourage students to participate in activities that are good for the environment and promote energy efficiency and savings.

To receive the designation, schools completed an application that provided an overview of their green efforts.

UCS Schools were honored as “Green” or “Emerald.” Green schools documented at least 10 approved environmental activities; Emerald schools demonstrated at least 15 green school activities.  

Eisenhower High School, Utica High School and Duncan Elementary were honored for receiving an Emerald School Designation.

Bemis Junior High School, Davis Junior High School and Switzer Elementary were honored as Green Schools.

Schools from Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties were honored at a special celebration on April 22 – Earth Day – at the Detroit Zoo.
